Lots of manufactures use the exposed reel seats. never heard of a problem there. I think you would be very amazed at the durability of these rods. they are not brittle, I assure you. Ive broken lots of loomis rods because they are brittle, you can horse any fish anywhere unless of your own stupid incompetent actions. So I say build on Trey!
